White supremacist backlash builds over Jena case

This is scary stuff.  Please pray for Jena, our country, and the sick people who are calling for attacks on the six black youth in Jena.

No sooner did tens of thousands of African-American demonstrators depart the racially tense town of Jena, La., last week after protesting perceived injustices than white supremacists flooded in behind them.

First a neo-Nazi Web site posted the names, addresses and phone numbers of some of the six black teenagers and their families at the center of the Jena 6 case and urged followers to find them and “drag them out of the house,” prompting an investigation by the FBI.

Then the leader of a white supremacist group in Mississippi published interviews that he conducted with the mayor of Jena and the white teenager who was attacked and beaten, allegedly by the six black youths. In those interviews, the mayor, Murphy McMillin, praised efforts by pro-white groups to organize counterdemonstrations; the teenager, Justin Barker, urged white readers to “realize what is going on, speak up and speak their mind.”

Over the weekend, white extremist Web sites and blogs across the Internet filled with invective about the Jena 6 case, which has drawn scrutiny from civil rights leaders, three leading Democratic presidential candidates and hundreds of African-American Internet bloggers. They are concerned about allegations that blacks have been treated more harshly than whites in the criminal justice system of the town of 3,000, which is 85 percent white.

David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader, last week announced his support for Jena’s white residents, who voted overwhelmingly for him when he ran unsuccessfully for Louisiana governor in 1991.

“There is a major white supremacist backlash building,” said Mark Potok, a hate-group expert at the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights group in Montgomery, Ala. “I also think it’s more widespread than may be obvious to most people. It’s not only neo-nazis and Klansmen—you expect this kind of reaction from them.”

Controversy over the Jena 6 case has been percolating for months but it exploded into national view last Thursday when a crowd of at least 20,000 peaceful demonstrators from around the country marched through the central Louisiana town.

They came to support the six black high school students who were initially charged by the local prosecutor with attempted murder for attacking Barker, a white classmate who was beaten and knocked briefly unconscious last December. The charges were later reduced to aggravated second-degree battery.

The incident capped months of racial unrest after three white students hung nooses from a shade tree at the high school after black students asked permission to sit under it. School officials dismissed the noose incident as a prank, angering black students and their parents and triggering a series of fights between whites and blacks. The whites involved were charged with misdemeanors or not at all while the blacks drew various felony charges.

McMillin has insisted that his town is being unfairly portrayed as racist—an assertion the mayor repeated in an interview with Richard Barrett, the leader of the Nationalist Movement, a white supremacist group based in Learned, Miss., who asked McMillin to “set aside some place for those opposing the colored folks.”

“I am not endorsing any demonstrations, but I do appreciate what you are trying to do,” Barrett quoted McMillin as saying. “Your moral support means a lot.”

McMillin declined to return calls seeking comment Monday.

Barker’s father, David, said his family did not know the nature of Barrett’s group when they agreed to be interviewed, adding, “I am not a white supremacist, and neither is my son.”

But Barrett said he explained his group and its beliefs to the Barker family, who then invited him to stay overnight at their home on the eve of last week’s protest march.

Rev. Jesse Jackson told the Tribune that he had grown so concerned about white extremists’ threats against the Jena 6 families and perceived injustices in the town that he called the White House over the weekend to ask for immediate federal intervention. Jackson said the acting head of the U.S. Justice Department’s civil right division phoned him Monday to say that the agency had begun investigating the Jena situation.

  1. Just so I understand this. Thousands of Black supremacists flood the small town of Jena, Louisiana demanding that 6 Black youths be freed from a jail they were not in, demanding all charges in relation to a beatdown they “”allegedly “” gave to Justin Barker, and this is praised by 2 of THE MOST RACIALLY BIGOTED BLACK MEN IN THE COUNTRY, al $harpton and je$$e jack$on. And, since, sadly, most of the country’s media are of the Marxist liberal variety, all of this is counted as praiseworthy. That these 6 “”alleged”” batterers should have all charges dropped is portrayed as justice, the right thing to do, proves to me, and many others, just how far fallen this nation is from the true spiritual greatness it once was, that WRONG has become RIGHT, and RIGHT has become WRONG. This was predicted by Jesus, when he said that in those days men will call evil good and good evil. Or words to that effect.
    Way to go, FOJ! Y’all fell into this trap long ago.

    Then, Whites come in, far fewer in number and they are all labeled “White Supremacists” and “extremists” by that lying hypocrite, je$$e. Has everyone but me forgotten how je$$e was having bastard children by women other than his wife, all the while having the unmitigated audacity to so-call “counsel” former president Bill Clinton about his Monica affair, which was merely one of dozens he had from governor to president? Not to mention the “protection” racket he and his family has been running for years? His activities have caused me to dearly wish I had been a business owner, just so I could mistreat some Black employees, just so he would appear, just so I could face him down, showing the world that “you don’t have to cave in to this extortionist!”
    But, alas, God knows what is best for me, even when I do not. Even though the FOJ maintains their proximity to certain areas of jack$on’s person, as best I can, I will continue to rail about this huckster, this charlatan.

  2. No, this was a demonstration on behalf of teens who got into a fist fight and were later charged with FELONY crimes!!!!!, While the WHITE counterparts of this fight weren’t charged with anything or little of nothing. I don’t think that the world or most of us that live in expect no punishment to be dealt out; however we do expect fairness throughtout the whole situation. Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton personal lives are just that personal!!! The fact that they are standing up for this cause has nothing to do with that. The reason that these groups were labeled as extremists or as supermacists is BECAUSE THATS WHAT THEY CALL THEMSELVES!!!!!

    Just think about it, without race blindly you.

  3. Ok I’m a real person unlike this other guy I live in the real world buddie and in the real world you don’t woop someones azz and go to prison for attempted murder. The only reason the law is being enforced on these 6 guys is their black. That’s wrong and wat the white boys did was just as severe and unless your a racist you would see the unfairness here. Duh wats wrong with you and as far as these others you are talking about and their bastard children who cares wat they do in their homes that doesn’t mean that wat their doing standing up for these young boys who’s lives are @ jeopardy because they were defending themselves. Come on you have issues and by the way I’m white and the year is 2007 moron!!!

  4. I read your comments in disbelief. The end of the pledge of allegiance states with liberty and justice for all. Tell me how there is liberty or justice given to a group of boys that happen to be “black” for getting into a fight. (And the victim was well enough to attend an event the same day! Wow, must not have hurt too much). Did you forget that this was one of a series of fights? What happened to the “white” children involved? Absolutely nothing! Although I do not condone racism in any sense, I think that it is ridiculous that a “child” can be charged as an adult for attempted murder and kept in jail for 10 months. There is obviously an inbalance here. Especially when the media only tell parts of the “real story” of what really happened. You call civil rights leaders and peaceful protestors black supremacists, but that is incorrect. They protested for the injustice in a town with a history of racism just now being brought to light. However, white supremacist (which hate black people) came not to support the whites involved but to just be in opposition of a seemingly powerful black movement.(no matter what the cause, they just oppose black people). And who cares about Jesse Jackson and his private life. This does not mean he is not an efficient and effective leader who promotes eqality and protest the injustices of the “AFRICAN AMERICAN” people. I’m quite sure many white leaders have participated in outside marital affairs, but who cares. That is between them, their wives, and the LORD. Furthermore, quoting the bible should not be for your own selfish points as GOD does not approve. He also says what you have done to the least of these you have also done to me. (the least of these, right now is those poor helpless victims of racism in 2007). It is a shame that we can not live in harmony. Black-White, it does not matter, we are all human. My heart is broken that today in the 21st century we are still dealing with civil inequalities. Change your mind. Change you heart. I pray that you renew with the right spirit as you can not serve two masters. ISAIAH 54:17 No weapon formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD , and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. The LORD always has the last word. Ask for forgiveness and repent today!

  5. Jimmy, sweet heart, this protest was not about Rev Jackson or Rev Sharpton. It was about an injustice. I disagree that all charges should be dropped as I have seen some call for. I also disagree that the rules should be applied so unevenly. Thus the injustice, thus the fervor that brought 30K plus “peaceful” demonstrators. If Mr. Reed was truly interested in dealing with the menaces in Jena – then why was a Caucasian adult given simple battery (the assailant was given probation) for a very similar fight sequence just three weeks earlier. And here’s the rub, the attacker in this case was actually a bona fide adult. 3 weeks later, the assailants are African American and they all but get the death penalty. One case in question, the young man may not have even been involved with the fight at all.

    Let the punishment fit the crime. It’s not like there wasn’t precedent in Jena for this very same crime. Why the uneven application of the law?

    Actually, the young man attacked in the party incident – with a broken bottle to the head no less – was one of the students involved in Justin Barkers case. I wonder had Mr. Reed actually administered some justice for the young man, he may have not felt the need to take that justice out of Justin Barkers face.

    So feel how you will about Jesse and Al. They don’t care, and frankly neither do I. I’m sure if we scan your background, the indiscretions would make for good TV news fodder as well. It’s not about them, you or me – we should be concerned that we live in a country where people with the power are allowed to abuse it. That’s what happened. Mr. shirley, remember, as it relates to these 6 young boys – there but by the grace of God go you and I.

  6. Jimmy Shirley,
    You’re an idiot. Plain and simple. Why don’t you go crawl back under the rock you came from? If you think that the black kids in Jena might “get away” with beating up a white kid, I recommend you sit down and have lunch with relatives of Medgar Evars, Yusef Hawkins or Emmett Till.
    The crap that you’re spewing is precisely why this nation is so screwed up: a bunch of bitch @ss white folks whining about how unfair this country has been since the Civil Rights Movement. How you lost a job to a black guy that wasn’t as qualified as you. Or how you didn’t get in to Michigan State because some black feller took your spot.
    You can whine about how black folks have it oh-so-great and bitch about the “race card” that seems to be so en vogue. You know what the race card is, jackass? A poll tax. That’s the “race card.” A grandfather clause. That’s the race card. The KKK. That’s a race card.
    If black supremacists killed white people at the rate that the KKK did with black people, the entire Iraq forces would be brought back home to the U.S. to stop it. Get real, man.
    Do me a favor, OK? When you want to burn a cross in front of a black man’s house, PLEASE pick mine. Please.

  7. I am a retired 65 year old Black man, former head of a local NAACP. I read how all you posters jumped all over Jimmy Shirley. I happen to agree with him. For the longest time, I have seen black folks from all over the country use their race to take jobs from better qualified White folks, extort money from businesses, such as Denny’s, claiming to have been treated shabbily, only later to have been proven fraud.
    I have seen Black youth totally reject the values of my generation and turn the phrase Black-on-Black crime into a well known phrase and a fact. I have seen this generation throw away all the gains my generation fought for, bled for, and die for. They do not vote, it is too White. They do not value education, it is too White. They do not hold down good, legitimate jobs, it is too White.
    I do not get the sense that Jimmy is a full-of-hate racist. I just get the sense that he is simply offering another viewpoint.
    All of you who denigrate him merely prove his point – about good has become evil and evil, good.

    {{ Why are y’all continuing to ignore that it was 6-on-1. That they had intentions of doing tremendous harm to him. I suppose most of y’all would be satisfied with the charges if Justin were still lying in a hospital bed in a brain-dead coma, huh?}}

    {{Defending themselves??!! And you ‘claim’ to live in the real world??! Even almost all of the Black supremacists have said that what these 6 boys did was wrong. You would have us believe they did ‘nothing’ wrong? Who is the MO-RON now!}}

    {{If you are referring to Mychal Bell, he is hardly a “child” at 17 years old. Of course, there is always mitigation as to whata child is. A child is a “boy” or “girl”, not man or woman. Yet, in the Don Imus incident, those college females were called children, hence “girls”. Yet, try calling a Black male ages 15 to 21, who could still be in school, a ‘boy’, and you probably have a fight on your hands. “Boy” not in a racial way, but just to reference his age.}}

    {{This is pure hypocrisy. “Do as I say, not as I do”? This is how you would raise your own children? To be a drunk while telling them not to drink? To commit adultery while telling them to be faithful? Telling them not to smoke while you do? je$$e should have been conducting himself as a leader, with the dignity and humility that comes with this position. He has not and has lost his moral platform. People who admire him must be like him.}}

    {{On this, we agree. I have said this before, though it no longer is posted. Fiar application of law is tantamount if respect for law is to be maintained. as well as for those people connected with the administration of it. My complaints have centered around the false image the media has portrayed, the Blacks who see racism in every shadow, under every rock, who bully people around with threats of violence.}}

    {{So, what you are advocating is vengence, right? I know who these individuals mentioned were. Victims of atrocities for sure. But, what you advocate is tit-for-tat. This they do in the Middle East and it will never end. This is what you want? }}

    {{And what rate might that be? Can you provide some reputable facts to back up your nebulous claim? Here, let me give you some help. According to statistics provided by the Archives at Tuskegee Institute, Febuary 1979,
    3,445 Blacks were victims of lynching from 1882-1968 with an additional 1,297 Whites. Phil, did you know that, in one year alone, Black men murder more than twice that total number of lynchings, according to the DOJ? So, maybe it is you who should get real, MAN.}}

  9. Everyone is screaming about the 6 on 1 but who was the dummy that get in the face of 6 people, one who is a football player, and start running is mouth about what had been done already. I don’t condone what was done to him but if I was that stupid I would expect to have my head handed to me, myself. This just tell me that he, Justin Barker, was crazy or he did not think that they would do anything because of the way “things work” in Jena, LA. Justin Barker figured that the other boys knew that they would be in trouble if they did something so he figured he could do whatever he wanted.
