A reader suggests we all watch the chilling movie “Without Sanctuary”. Lynchings were commonly photographed in the good old days, and postcards were sent around the country commemorating the event. Those who feel the noose incident in Jena was just a childish prank should take a moment to view this brief production.

Glad I could share “Without Sanctuary” with you. It’s why I went to Jena. It’s why I write. It’s why I rage in quiet riot. Pranks do not evoke this kind of emotion in me. Life does. Thanks for posting it here so others can understand – or try to.

What y’all are looking at is most likely justice. Vigilante justice, but justice all the same. I am a proponent of bringing back public executions, either the guillotine or hanging.
These people shown hanging and that they were photographed is nothing new. It was once a common practice. And, according to the studies conducted by one of those segregated Black colleges, The Tuskeegee Institute, and released in Febuary 1979, 75.34% of all lynchings from 1882-1968 were the results of crimes committed by the lynched. 24.64% were from other causes.
Also, and most important, is the fact that a large minority of those lynched were Whites. Of 4,742 victims of lynching during the years mentioned, 1,297 were White. And, let us put that into perspective. These took place in a time span of 86 years, which comes out to around 55 victims per year. And that includes White and Black.
By comparison, from 1976-2002, 26 years, according to the Department of Justice statistics on homicide, 26,727 Whites were murdered, which comes out to about 1,027 victims per year. Remember, these are Black-on-White victims of homicide. Where is the outrage about this?!!
Some make much over lynching. Why?
In the interest of fairness, during that same time frame, White-on-Black homicide had 9844 victims, which averages out to be about 378 victims per year.
Americans are murdering tens of thousands of Americans every year, often times with impunity, yet some of y’all are all consumed with lynching of the past, as if that trumps everthing else. Don’t that beat all!

Hanging is what is done to criminals. Execution is decided by the courts. You, sir, are twisting things. I said nothing about “public lynching”. Lynching is mob justice, of which I am against. My exact words, sir, were “I am a proponent of bringing back public executions, either the guillotine or hanging.” PUBLIC EXECUTIONS! And, I will tell any and everyone my position regarding this. I think that one of the reasons, among many, that crime has been increasing these past 50 years is the delay in carrying out the death sentence, along with taking it indoors, hiding it from public view. I think that if everone were made to see the consequences of capital crimes, it WOULD serve as a deterrent. As things are now, with death row prisoners dying of old age, the death penalty of course serves as no deterrent. This is a no-brainer. But now, with DNA able to prove beyond a doubt the guilt or innocence of the tried, with conviction and the sentence of death, it should be carried out within 90 days and in public. Moreover, it could be shown on pay-per-view TV with the proceeds going towards the families of the victims. Problem??

How can blacks be more prone to be arrested when the figures shows blacks and ‘whites’ like to kill equally?

Blacks are a minority, which means that is easier for them to rob and kill white people for their money…the ‘odds’ and economics reasons, are in their favor when taking that high number of ‘white’ killings…

what are the reasons for ‘whites’ to kill 10,207 blacks?…and why isnt the number of ‘white on white’ crimes important?
yes, at this time you would throw all those numbers out, because you would want to make a ‘clear’ distiction among ‘whites’ and hispanics…
