If you, like so many, are wondering why George Zimmerman, who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, has not been arrested, you should read the Mother Jones article, “The Trayvon Martin Killing, Explained.”   This excellent article includes all available information about the incident as well as related issues like Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, the history of the Sanford Police Department, and responses by government officials.  Mother Jones is continually updating the page as news develops, and includes links to other sites with useful information.

  1. Because it’s easier to explain that the Grand Jury didn’t find enough evidence to indict, rather than explain how the D.A. couldn’t come up with probable cause. Isn’t the D.A. the one that’s responsible for bringing evidence before the Grand Jury, though? It’s a little late to start a real investigation what, 2 months after the crime when the outrage really gets going.

    It doesn’t seem that “stand your ground” means chase, tackle and shoot an unarmed teenager, though.
