In a follow-up to this post, civil rights leaders in Mississippi are beginning to question the official “suicide” hypothesis in this case.

GREENWOOD, MS (WLBT)- The body of a man in his twenties was discovered hanging in a tree in a field in Greenwood.
The Leflore County coroners office says the unidentified black male was found about 12:30 Friday afternoon by two men who work nearby.
The coroner is trying to identify the man before the body is sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson.
The FBI is investigating the case.
Sheriff: Body hanging in tree identified
The Associated Press • December 4, 2010
GREENWOOD — A man whose body was found
hanging in a tree had a history of mental illness and
apparently killed himself, Leflore County Sheriff
Ricky Banks said Saturday.
“I don’t see any indication where he had any help or
somebody did it to him,” Banks said.
He said the man’s stepfather identified him Saturday
as Frederick Jermaine Carter, 26, of Sunflower in
neighboring Sunflower County.
The stepfather, a painter, told investigators he and
Carter were working in Greenwood on Wednesday
when he went to get tools and Carter wandered
away.
“He said he’d been looking for him ever since,”
Banks said. The stepfather told authorities that
Carter had a history of mental illness and had been
to the state hospital at least once.
Banks had said earlier that investigators thought the
man was a painter because his clothes and hands
were spattered and smudged with paint.
The coroner estimated that Carter died at least 24
hours before 12:30 p.m. Friday, when his body was
found hanging from a tree in a field.
Banks cautioned that his finding of apparent suicide
is not final, since the body is awaiting autopsy in
Jackson. He said he may get an autopsy report
Monday and the state crime lab report could take
longer.
But he said the man’s only injuries were from the
hanging itself, and the only footprints around the
tree matched his tennis shoes and indicate that he
walked around under the tree.
“There was an old table, just a frame of an old table
right up at the tree. It looked like he used that frame
to stand up on and then kicked it out from under him,” Banks said.
He said the man’s jacket pocket held a bundle of
braided rope like the rope around his neck.
I realize it is not as sensational to post the actual story- looks much better for donations if you make it appear racial. If you anyone is interested in all the facts here is the story from the AP:

I understand that you may believe all the propaganda spewed by the media, but they have never been the end all be all of racial injustice in the US. If not being completely complicit they rather turn a blind eye. To simply accept the “facts” as presented by the media as a given to be the truth, you often have to question yourself and your own motives. Have they not been complicit in covering up or ignoring similar issues in the past? As Tom (the cat) said on that episode of “Tom and Jerry” “Dooooon’t you belieeeeeeeve it!”
sick, you imply that Alan deliberately made the story look racial in order to get contributions, which is simply not true. Alan said in his original post that what he posted was the only information he had.
If this blog makes you sick, I suggest you not read it!
Maybe we should ALL just wait until the facts are in before we post or print anything. I am just tired of the negative and ominous spin that you always put on everything that happens in order to garner your blog some attention.
The FBI are involved because this situation is reminiscent of terrible things that happened in the past. They and the local authorities will get to the bottom of what happened. Right now, the best thing we can do is pray for the poor man’s family.
After experiencing the “truth” as it is presented by Friends of Justice first-hand in the Curtis Flower’s case, I am more inclined to believe just about anyone other than them.
Thank you Alan for the work you do. There are many of us that appreciate your desire to bring truth and justice for all without regard to all socially constructed labels that are intended to divide us. May you continue on in good health now and always.
